Thirty-one next-generation clean-hydrogen R&D projects will split $52.5m in backing from the US government as part of the Energy Earthshot scheme announced last month by the country’s Department of Energy (DOE).

The projects, foreseen bridging the “technical gaps” in hydrogen production, storage, distribution and utilisation technologies that are expected to help meet the Biden administration’s ambition of decarbonising America’s electricity sector by 2035, range over innovative electrolysis processes, new fuel cell designs, and domestic hydrogen supply systems.
