Maine’s legislature passed a bill to ban offshore wind development in its waters in what was claimed as a political victory by the state's iconic lobster industry, which said it “isn't ready to be replaced by wind turbines”.

The bill prohibits offshore wind development in state-owned submerged lands or territorial waters, but makes allowance for completion of the 12MW New England Aqua Ventus pilot, the only US industrial-scale floating wind project with a firm offtake deal for its power.
