Used turbine blades could be recycled into building materials used in construction of new wind farms under an initiative launched by GE Renewable Energy.

The wind OEM has linked with construction specialist LafargeHolcim in a bid to develop recycling and ‘circular economy’ options for decommissioned machines.

LafargeHolcim’s R&D team will look at ways to reuse blades in sustainable construction materials, said GE, which is already working with the Switzerland-based company on energy recovery measures from old components.
