One-hundred-and-seventeen 1MW wind turbines mounted in steel scaffolding 300 metres high and 350 metres wide, set on a floating platform and moored in deepwater, the Wind Catcher, being developed by a Norwegian outfit of the same name, is enough to set futurist hearts racing.

And all the more so as – all going to plan – the prototype of the potentially market-changing, ultra-large-capacity concept will be in the water as early as next year, through a tie-up with transitioning offshore oil & gas contracting giant Aibel.
