Siemens Energy and the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) will work together on developing business cases for green hydrogen and promoting heat generation and industrial processes that can decarbonise hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel and petrochemicals.
As part of a wide-ranging partnership agreement signed on Tuesday, the organisations will also exchange knowledge and expertise on renewables-driven electrification, collaborate on facilitating private sector investment in the renewables sector and jointly develop roadmaps for communities and regions that lack access to electricity.
“Partnerships are the cornerstone of global efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals and key to the rapid acceleration of the global energy transition,” said Irena director-general Francesco La Camera. “This public-private initiative is representative of a shared a vision for a low-carbon energy future and of a joint commitment to meaningful action.”
Siemens Energy chief executive Christian Bruch added: ““This partnership leverages and amplifies both of our organisation’s strengths to accelerate the energy transition.
