The company, owned by French naval contractor DCNS, is part of a consortium made up Kyuden Mirai Energy, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering (NSSE) and NPO Nagasaki Marine Industry Cluster Promotion Association that was chosen by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment for the 2MW pilot.
The L'Arcouest turbine, a 16-metre-diameter "open centre" design, will be built in France and shipped to Japan, with its subsea base manufactured locally by NSSE, which will also be responsible for all mobilisation and deployment activities.
