Solar power is set for explosive growth in India, matching coal’s share in the nation’s power generation mix within two decades or even sooner, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

PV currently accounts for less than 4% of India’s electricity generation and coal almost 70% but by 2040 – if not sooner – they will converge in the low 30% range, said IEA executive director Fatih Birol, who added that India is on course to be the world's “solar nation”.
