GE Renewable Energy unveiled plans for a turbine blade plant in Northeast England, in a major new boost to industrialisation in the world-leading UK market that one industry leader said marks the start of the “next generation” of offshore wind manufacturing.

GE is in advanced talks over construction and financing of the plant on the site of a former steelworks in Teesside, which would be operated by its LM Wind Power subsidiary and produce 107-metre blades for the US-owned group’s Haliade-X turbines.
