Renewables giant Iberdrola is eyeing a plan to build Spain’s first utility-scale offshore wind farm as a 300MW floating array.

The Spanish utility said the study, design and engineering phase of the more than €1bn ($1.2bn) development could begin this year, and the wind farm is slated to enter operations in 2026.

Iberdrola didn’t reveal where it may build the floating wind project, but said it would kick-start the development of up to 2GW of floating wind power capacity the company has identified off the coasts of Galicia in north-western Spain, Andalusia to the South, or the Canary Islands.
