Chief executive Tim Cook told a technology conference that the 25-year, 130MW agreement, which will power its California operations, makes both environmental and financial sense for the world’s most valuable company.

“We know, in Apple, that climate change is real. Our view is that the time for talk has passed, and the time for action is now. We’ve shown that with what we’ve done,” he says, adding that the cost savings compared with fossil-fuel energy will be “very significant”.
