Yet in a bizarre twist of irony, it has since become clear that the legendary Athenian bureaucracy actually saved the sector from overheating — thereby sparing it the sort of political backlash experienced in Spain and the Czech Republic.
“In a way, we were lucky with the bureaucracy in the first years of development, and now with the lack of financing,” says Alexander Zachariou, commercial director of module maker HelioSphera and president of the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies (Helapco).
