Wind and solar droughts 'could have huge impact' on future grid

As the US continues ramping up its wind and solar capacity, a team of researchers has highlighted the danger of almost weeklong periods of cloudy and calm conditions that could have a “huge” impact on a grid reliant on renewables.

The US is aiming to have a net zero grid by 2035 and is therefore becoming increasingly reliant on intermittent renewable energy sources, in particular wind and solar.
