The “catastrophe” in Texas earlier this year laid bare the shortcomings of an American power distribution system that is behind Europe in key areas, said the networks chief of global utility giant Enel as he flagged a potential entry to the US grids sector.

Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks said the failures and blackouts that hit the US state in February told a “complex story of underinvestment, unpreparedness of what could happen, underestimation of resiliency” that were the most dramatic signs yet of wider weaknesses in the US power system.
