Plans for “industrial-scale” offshore wind-powered green hydrogen production on an island off northern Scotland were unveiled by a group including oil supermajor TotalEnergies and finance giant Macquarie.

A proposed green hydrogen hub on the island of Flotta would take power from the 2GW West of Orkney Windfarm planned by a consortium of TotalEnergies, Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and local developer RIDG.

The group – under the banner Offshore Wind Power Limited – has submitted the fixed-foundation wind farm plan as a bid in the ScotWind seabed leasing round currently underway by the Crown Estate Scotland.
