Renewables developer Total Eren – 30%-owned by oil supermajor TotalEnergies – has teamed up with London-listed energy group Chariot to develop a 430MW hybrid solar and wind plant to power mining in Zambia.

The renewables project, which is among the largest planned so far in Sub-Saharan Africa, aims to provide green energy to the copper mining operations of First Quantum Minerals (FQM), and comes about two months after TotalEren and Chariot signed a deal to develop a solar farm to power a copper and gold mine in South Africa.
