Europe’s chemicals and wind industries joined forces to warn the EU that “the survival of entire industrial value chains” are at stake as they urged Brussels officials to focus on long-term measures underpinning stable access to large-scale green power in an upcoming review of market design.

European chemicals body Cefic and WindEurope told European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen that while short-term emergency measures to address the current crisis sparked by the Ukraine war are important, they won’t lay the ground for the massive investments needed to give heavy energy users the renewable power they need to decarbonise.
