Oil & gas supermajor Shell unveiled its first foray into UK solar development, announcing plans to help build almost 1GW on the day Prime Minister Boris Johnson targeted net zero-carbon power generation by 2035.

Shell signed a deal with developer Island Green Power on an initial 700MW-plus PV portfolio with battery storage, and a separate partnership on 100MW with Clearstone Energy with “co-located storage potential”, both subject to future final investment decisions.
