Danish offshore wind market pacesetter Orsted is set to pilot what would be the first full-scale clean-energy charging station at sea, a design from compatriot Maersk Supply Service (MSS) that will make it possible for electric service offshore vessels (SOVs) working on a project to idle with “virtually all emissions and noise pollution eliminated”.

The first of the ‘Stillstrom’ – ‘quiet power’ in Danish – stations, a buoy-shaped concept in development between the two companies since 2020, will be wired in at an unnamed Orsted project in UK waters by the third quarter of the year.
