Danish offshore wind pacesetter Orsted has been named to the Time100 influencers list for a second year running.

The former oil & gas developer, which joined a diverse list of winners ranging from NetFlix and Meta through Spotify and Apple to TikTok and IBM, was anointed for its “leading role in accelerating the energy transition and adoption of offshore wind energy in the US”.

“Transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy is the existential challenge of our time,” said David Hardy, CEO of Orsted’s North America offshore wind business. “Rapidly scaling the development of offshore wind and other renewable energy sources is critical to combat climate change.

“Our projects in the US are creating thousands of jobs, building new domestic supply chains and enhancing communities, while powering millions of homes and offsetting carbon emissions with clean energy from wind, solar and green fuels.”

In 2021 Time100 list, Orsted was recognized as “the first major energy company to transform from a fossil fuel generator to a clean energy leader”. For 2022, the Time judges credited the Dane with “changing” the US energy landscape, through its impact on renewables power plant build-out and training for US workers in the emerging offshore wind sector.

The Time100 Most Influential Companies list, which draws on nominations from sectors from health care and entertainment to transportation and technology, is judged on criteria including “relevance, impact, innovation, leadership and success”. The full list can be found here.
