The UK fired the starting pistol on what’s set to be the world’s largest auction for offshore wind so far as its fourth renewable energy contract-for-difference (CfD) allocation round opened for entries that could see 12GW or more capacity awarded government-backed power deals.

The round – known as AR4 – will be crucial in propelling the UK to its ambitious goal of 40GW of installed offshore wind by 2030, four times what’s currently in place, with fixed-bottom projects set to dominate the process and no cap in place on the amount of capacity that can win guaranteed CfD deals in the process.
