European supporters of renewable energy and climate action breathed a sigh of relief as Emmanuel Macron saw off far-right challenger Marine Le Pen in France’s presidential election – but the wind industry immediately urged him to think again over unambitious onshore targets.

Macron took more than 58% of the vote to win Sunday’s run-off with Le Pen, who had dismayed the wind and solar sectors with pledges to not just halt, but actively reverse, the growth of renewables in France.
