Global solar power installations have passed one terawatt – or 1,000GW – and the world is on course to double that again by the end of 2025, helped by European countries seeking to “detach themselves from Russia’s energy strings as soon as possible”, SolarPower Europe said in its Global Market Outlook 2022-26.

The expected rapid growth comes after a record 167.8GW of new solar capacity was grid-connected globally last year, 21% more than in 2020. That brought the global operating solar fleet to 940GW at the end of 2021 from where it increased further to 1TW now, the industry group said as it presented its outlook at the Intersolar Europe conference that started in Munich on Tuesday.
