An Australian energy group is laying plans for a 1GW offshore wind farm to power an aluminium smelter that is the biggest single user of electricity in the state of Victoria.
Alinta Energy said the Spinifex Offshore Wind Farm could help the Portland Aluminium Smelter – which accounts for about 10% of Victoria’s demand – become the first in Australia to be 100% renewable-powered.
