Germany will “drastically accelerate renewables expansion”, remove obstacles to their installation, mandate solar rooftops on most new buildings and bring forward a climate protection emergency programme next year, the three parties that will likely form the nation's next government said after exploratory coalition talks.

The Social Democrats (SPD) and their winning candidate, current finance minister Olaf Scholz, the Greens and the neo-liberal Free Democrats (FDP) for the past two weeks have met for discussions to sound out whether the diverse left-right trio could actually come together to realistically form a stable new government.
