Germany as part of upcoming climate protection packages will hike the volume of renewable energy auctions and double the target for green hydrogen production, economics and climate minister Robert Habeck said when presenting a sobering opening balance sheet on climate protection.

“We start [the new government] with a drastic deficit. The previous climate protection measures are inadequate in all sectors,” Green Party member Habeck said, who took over the ministry from his predecessor Peter Altmaier from the Christian Democrats (CDU) of former Chancellor Angela Merkel in early December.
