Germany in 2021 installed 5.3GW in new PV capacity, the highest level of additions in nine years, industry association BSW-Solar said as it warned the rate is still well below what's needed to meet government goals.

The expansion follows 4.8GW in additions in 2020, and leaves the cumulative solar capacity in Europe’s largest economy at about 59GW at the end of last year, which met roughly 10% of the country’s electricity consumption.
