Plans to produce green hydrogen directly from wind power received a boost when a pioneering project in Denmark was given special status by the nation’s government, in what is said to be a European first.

Siemens Gamesa’s Brande Hydrogen project is one of two designated as energy test zones by the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), giving it dispensation from normal sector regulations that will allow it to trial production and distribution of green H2 in ‘island mode’ separate from the electricity grid.
