The installation of new residential solar storage systems jumped by about 60% last year and demand is currently rising further in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Germany’s solar industry federation BSW said.

Some 141,000 residential solar storage systems were added in 2021, pushing the cumulative number of solar storage systems in German homes to 413,000.

“For more and more households, the purchase of solar installations and storage systems is becoming a declaration of energy independence,” BSW managing director Carsten Körnig said, adding that storage was also on the rise due to the spread of electronic vehicles among house owners.
