The world’s first gigawatt-scale procurement for novel long-duration energy storage is set to be announced in June by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Recharge has learned.

The move follows a recent announcement by California governor Gavin Newsom to allocate $350m of state funds towards “pre-commercial long-duration storage projects”.
