A first-ever national offshore wind target and a multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure drive with green power ambitions at its core – it was quite a week for US clean energy.

The 30GW federal goal by 2030 announced by the Department of Energy put an official seal on America’s burgeoning offshore wind ambitions, underpinned by an estimated $12bn of annual investment.

The news was hailed as a huge confidence-booster by European giants such as Orsted, Iberdrola and BP, which are preparing to advance gigawatt-scale plans off the US northeast, with "billions of dollars of investment cued up".
