Major US electricity generator NRG Energy will use clean wood biomass in the fuel mix at its Dunkirk Generating Station, a 530MW coal-fired plant in Chautauqua County. The biomass will account for up to 15MW of carbon-neutral electricity output contracted to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for 10 years. Biomass co-firing is set to begin by the end of next year.
