GDF Suez has contracted Swiss engineering and construction firm Foster Wheeler to design and build a circulating fluidised bed boiler at the €240m ($326m) biomass installation, which will consume more than one million tones of woody biomass and other agri-fuels each year.

GDF Suez, the world’s second-largest energy utility, says the biomass plant will commence operation in 2012. It will utilise Poland’s large biomass resources, which the country intends to leverage to meet its 15% renewables target for 2020.
