The joint venture of Areva and Duke Energy had planned to begin construction on the $250m project early this year, but has been unable to find a purchaser for the energy the plant would produce. Washington’s larger utilities are required to source 15% of their energy from renewable sources by 2020 with interim targets that they are on course to reach.
Adage spokesman Tom DePonty says the company explored all options for selling power in Washington and throughout the West, to the extent that transmission constraints would allow.
