The US Supreme Court will hear a suit brought against four electric utilities and the Tennessee Valley Authority alleging that greenhouse gas emissions from their power plants are a public nuisance under common law.
The case, brought by Connecticut and seven other states, the city of New York and a trio of land trusts, has been wending its way through lower courts since 2004.
