The order is for 69 ECO100, 3MW turbines and six ECO 74, 1.67MW turbines, to be commissioned in May 2012. The contract represents a breakthrough in the UK market for French-owned Alstom.

The turbines for the first phase of Whitelee, which is currently Europe’s largest onshore wind farm with 322MW of capacity, were supplied by Siemens.

“This order represents a major technological milestone,” says Alfonso Faubel, vice president of Alstom Wind.
