Wind power this year for the first time will become Germany’s biggest source of electricity, overtaking lignite, but the positive figures shouldn’t avert attention from the current crisis in the wind power sector, the country’s wind energy federation (BWE) said.

Thanks to favourable wind conditions this year, Germany’s close to 30,000 wind turbines from January to mid-December have produced 118 terawatt hours of green power, more than ever before, the BWE said.
