When a six-line June memorandum from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced targets of 5GW of offshore wind in its waters by 2022 and 30GW by 2030, the industry’s reaction was a mixture of excitement and scepticism.

Excitement due to the unexpected (and unexpectedly high) target adds one of the world’s most dynamic economies to the global offshore wind club — a country already chasing some of the planet’s most ambitious renewable-energy goals.
