Spanish wind group Gamesa has taken the wraps off its new G132-5.0 MW turbine at the Global Offshore Wind 2014 event in Glasgow.
Gamesa claimed the turbine, with a blade length of 64.5 metres and a rotor diameter of 132 metres, is a “milestone” in its offshore strategy, building on the recent DNV-GL type certification of its G128-5.0 MW – and generating 3% more power.
According to the manufacturer: “It is designed with redundant modules, guaranteeing reliable performance and maximising energy output, thereby streamlining the cost of energy.”
Gamesa added that the light weight of the G132-5.0 MW also helps cut costs on deployment.
The Spanish group expects to complete certification for the new machine in 2015.
