All Gwynt y Mor foundations in

The FLiDAR prototype buoy at the UK's Gwynt y Mor wind farm

Work underway at Gwynt y Mor

All 160 foundations are now in place at the 576MW Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm off North Wales in the UK, developer RWE said.

The final foundation’s transition piece was put in place by the German group’s Friedrich Ernestine jack-up vessel last week, it announced today.

The utility is now pressing on with installation of the final 19 Siemens 3.6MW wind turbines and commissioning the project.

Challenges at the site – which will become the world’s second-largest wind farm once commissioned – have included the clearance of unexploded WW II bombs found in Liverpool Bay.

Friedrich Ernestine will now move on to work at the company’s Nordsee Ost wind farm in Germany.
