Dong's Sykes to co-chair UK OWIC

Benj Sykes: 'We are in danger of creating failure by talking ourselves out of offshore wind'

Dong Energy’s Benj Sykes has been named the new co-chair of the UK’s Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC).

Sykes – Dong Energy Wind Power’s UK country manager – will serve alongside UK business and energy minister Michael Fallon, who announced the appointment and is the other co-chair of the government-industry partnership body.

Sykes replaces ScottishPower chief corporate officer Keith Anderson, an OWIC co-chair since 2010 who will remain a member of the group.

OWIC’s remit includes delivering the UK’s Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy, and help meet the ambitious cost-reduction targets the government wants to see the sector achieve by 2020.

Sykes said of the appointment: “OWIC has an important job in helping to drive the UK's offshore wind industry forward.

“I'm looking forward to taking on this exciting and challenging role, and working closely with Government and the members of OWIC to drive down the cost of offshore wind and deliver a competitive and diversified supply chain.”
