Power technology giant ABB has been chosen to supply the export line for the 400MW Horns Rev wind farm off Denmark.
Under a $40m deal with transmission system operator Energinet.dk, the contractor will deliver a 32
km long 220kV three-core alternating-current cable with integrated fiber-optics
for data communications for the North Sea project, being developed by the
Danish Energy Agency.
“ABB has the portfolio, technical know-how, domain
knowledge, project management capability and experience to execute such
projects,” says ABB’s head of Power Systems Claudio Facchin.
Delivery of the cable, from ABB’s high-voltage cable
factory in Karlskrona, Sweden, is slated for 2016.
Once online in 2017, Horns Rev 3 will supply
electricity to around 400,000 households.
