Gemini – the biggest offshore wind project in the Netherlands with a capacity of 600MW – has signed an off-take balance and services agreement with DELTA, an energy supplier and infrastructure operator based in Zeeland province.
The agreement means that DELTA will become the biggest purchaser of power from offshore wind in the North Sea, said a statement.
Gemini’s twin 300MW wind farms will have a total production of roughly 2.6 TWh per year, covering the electricity needs of approximately 785,000 households – four times as many homes as Zeeland contains
Canada-based Northland Power, Gemini’s majority shareholder, said that the agreement “provides a highly certain and secure revenue stream for the project”.
Northland said it is working towards financial close on the project's senior and junior debt, scheduled for later this month.
Gemini is due to enter construction later this year and will use Siemens 4MW wind turbines.
