Areva halfway at Trianel Borkum

EWE co-own Germany's Alpha Ventus wind farm
French power giant Areva has installed 20 of the 40 turbines to make up the Trianel Wind Park Borkum in the German North Sea.

The offshore wind farm is sited 45km off the German coast and will begin producing power later this year.

Installation of the M5000 turbines began last September.

Areva said its work in Germany will stand it in good stead in the French offshore wind sector, where it is turbine supplier to the consortium including development giants GDF Suez and EDPR.

The French group, which is in the process of cementing an offshore joint venture with Gamesa of Spain, said it will have 120 offshore turbines in German waters by the end of 2014.
