Lowestoft – in Suffolk, eastern England – is already home to operations for Galloper’s sister-project, the already-operating Greater Gabbard.
Port operator ABP said Lowestoft’s old fish market, next door to the Greater Gabbard base, will be converted to accommodate Galloper’s needs.
Galloper is a co-development by UK utility SSE and Germany’s RWE.
But the project – the next big UK offshore wind farm in the pipeline – has been placed under a cloud by SSE’s decision to put its activities in the sector under review over government policy concerns.
A final investment decision on Galloper was due this year but SSE has previously indicated it won’t move before UK national elections in 2015.
The French wind turbine manufacturer Areva has been linked with the project.
