Offshore wind installation specialist A2Sea has been hired by Dong Energy to place 97 turbines at the Gode Wind 1 and 2 projects in the German North Sea.
A2Sea will start installing the Siemens 6MW machines in the
first half of 2015.
The Danish contractor will use its Sea Installer vessel for
the 582MW Gode Wind work.
Sea Installer is a veteran of the Gunfleet Sands extension and
West of Duddon Sands projects in the UK.
Gode Wind 1 and 2 are due to be fully commissioned in the
second half of 2016.
A2Sea CEO Jens Frederik Hansen
said: “It is no secret that there are only a few offshore wind projects until
we expect a slight increase in projects from 2017. And naturally we are
interested in keeping our vessels deployed continuously to keep costs down and
be able to contribute to the industry’s goals to reduce the cost of energy.”
Hansen added: “We see the
agreement as an acknowledgment of our previous work and I believe we have shown
our worth with, for example, the installation of 235 turbines in 2013.
"Last but not
least it is a very positive signal from the German market that offshore wind is
back on the agenda and prioritised.”
