Siemens in Cape Wind turbine deal

Siemens' 3.6MW turbine is a stalwart of the offshore wind sector in Europe

Siemens has signed a deal to supply turbines to Cape Wind, in a boost to the project team seeking to build the first US offshore wind farm.

The German group will supply its 3.6MW turbines, a transformer platform and 15 years-worth of service to the wind farm in Nantucket Sound south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Siemens is not currently releasing the number of turbines involved in the agreement, said a spokeswoman for the company in the US.

Cape Wind has a nameplate capacity of 468MW, representing 130 of the turbines, and has so far secured power purchase agreements equivalent to 77.5% of its output.
