V164 nacelle hits heights for Vestas

Vestas has installed the nacelle of its prototype 8MW turbine at the Danish national wind test centre in Østerild.

The V164-8.0 MW is taking shape ahead of expected commissioning in the first quarter of next year.

The 20-metre-long, 8-metre-wide-and-high nacelle was successfully installed on top of the turbine’s 140-metre tower.

It will be joined by the machine’s trio of 80-metre blades, which have travelled from the Vestas R&D centre on the Isle of Wight, UK.

Vestas and Danish developer Dong Energy have an “enhanced” co-operation agreement to deploy the offshore machine at Østerild as part of plans to accelerate roll-out.
