UK seabed landlord the Crown Estate (CE) is to work together with technology development body the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (Orec) on a spectrum of programmes aimed at speeding up cost reduction in the offshore wind, wave and tidal energy sectors.

The three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreed between the two organisations pinpoints several areas for collaboration, including identification of the enabling technologies to deliver affordable offshore renewable energy; a framework for collection of performance data from offshore wind turbines; a framework for establishing best practise in offshore transmission issues; reliability certification for offshore wind turbines.

CE and Orec will also jointly lead a working group advancing new deep-water foundation concepts.
