The nacelle for Samsung Heavy Industries' (SHI) prototype 7MW offshore wind turbine is set to begin a six-month programme of trials at the National Renewable Energy Centre’s (Narec) in northeast England, following its hook-up on the facility's new 15MW test bench.

Following commissioning of the £47m ($73.4m) GE-supplied rig, the S7.0-171 nacelle, built around a geared David Brown drive-train, will be put through its paces under extreme climatic conditions, including simulated gusts of up to 240km per hour.
