Wind industry backs EC maritime plan

Europe's wind industry has come out strongly in favour of a new European Commission (EC) proposal aimed at improving the planning of maritime activities and the management of coastal areas.

The proposal – which takes the form of a draft directive – aims to establish a common European framework for maritime spatial planning and integrated coastal management across EU member states, with a view to ensuring activities at sea and on coasts remains sustainable.

“The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) strongly supports the Commission’s proposal, which will allow the European offshore wind energy sector to plan investments based on a mapped use of sea space,” says Anne-Benedicte Genachte, offshore regulatory affairs advisor for EWEA.
